Occasionally in life you may need some help to sort out a problem or difficulty, or you may have feelings that cause you concern. You may experience a crisis such as bereavement, work or other stress, relationship problems or medical worries. There may be a less defined sense of unhappiness or long-standing concerns such as those from trauma or abuse. You may want to make changes in your life to improve your sense of well-being.
Counselling can help make sense of what is happening to you as well as offering Support through difficult periods in life. It is an opportunity to explore concerns and difficulties, with the help of another person, in a way that is often not possible with family or friends. It is based on building a Trusting, Respectful relationship between the client and counsellor.
Counselling involves more than just listening to you. It provides a safe place to help you to understand your feelings and explore ways of making changes. You will be able to talk about your concerns in an Accepting and non-judgmental setting. The time spent in counselling is for you alone and is private and confidential. Difficulties can be explored as deeply as you wish.
Counselling will not try to solve your problems for you nor give advice: instead it will help you to gain a greater understanding of yourself so that you will be better able to find your own answers and come to your own decisions. It provides an opportunity for you to live a more satisfying and resourceful life.
After counselling people often say they feel different; feel better about themselves; can see things from a different point of view; gain confidence and can cope better with the way that things are.
